Campus Traffic Rules and
Vehicle Guidelines

Valparaiso University enforces traffic regulations aligned with State of Indiana laws to ensure a safe and efficient campus environment. Drivers must observe a campus-wide 20 mph speed limit, wear seatbelts, and respect pedestrian rights. The University may revise parking and traffic rules for special events, with advance notice when possible. Vehicles causing hazards, violating barricades, or abandoned on campus may be cited, towed, or impounded.

General Traffic Rules

The speed limit on campus is 20 miles per hour, whether posted or not.
Campus roadways are a combination of two-way and one-way streets.
Pedestrians have the right of way.
Seatbelts must be worn by all occupants at all times.

Parking and Vehicle Movement

The University reserves the right to temporarily close any parking facility, revise traffic and parking regulations and make alterations in regulations for special events.
When possible, advance notice of changes will be provided.
If a vehicle is having a maintenance problem, immediately seek assistance moving it to a legal parking area and notify VUPD.
Vehicles that appear to be abandoned on campus will be towed, impounded and disposed of.
