Deferring Your Program
Start Date at Valpo

If you are unable to begin your academic program as originally planned, Valparaiso University allows admitted students to request a deferral to a future semester. Master’s students should contact the Graduate School, while undergraduate students should reach out to Undergraduate Admission. Be sure to include your originally admitted term, your reason for deferral, and the new term you are requesting. Once your deferral is approved, the Office of International Programs will issue an updated I-20 reflecting your new start date. You may be asked to submit updated financial documentation if your original documents are more than one year old.

Program Deferrals

When you contact them, be sure to mention the semester you were originally admitted for, the reason you wish to defer, and the semester you wish to defer to.

Once the graduate or undergraduate admission department at Valpo defers your program start date, the Office of International Programs will be notified and then will send you an updated I-20 with the new start date.

NOTE: Please be aware that you may be asked for a new financial document that is less than 1 year old at the time that your program deferral is processed.
