At Valparaiso University, we are committed to creating a welcoming and affirming environment for students of all orientations, identities, and expressions. Our LGBTQ+ resources are designed to support, empower, and celebrate the diversity within the LGBTQ+ community.

Through LGBTQ+-affirming student organizations, peer support networks, educational programming, and access to local and national advocacy resources, Valpo offers meaningful opportunities for connection and growth. Community Resources

PFLAG is the first and largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people, their parents and families, and allies.

LGBTQ Northwest Indiana strives to be the go-to organization for LGBTQ+ community members in the Northwest Indiana area, to be a Safe Place, a welcoming place, and a sharing place.

Valparaiso University Resources

Join and participate in diverse extracurricular, co-curricular, and curricular programs that offer leadership opportunities, identity exploration, and development; promote multicultural education; enhance student retention; and provide venues for social action, service, and collaborative endeavors.

The Counseling Center assists students in overcoming personal issues that may negatively impact their ability to be successful and to make the most out of their experience at Valparaiso University.

Valparaiso University maintains a comprehensive collection of general university policies that govern campus life, employee conduct, and operational procedures. These policies ensure a safe, inclusive, and well-regulated environment for all members of the university community. From pet policies to data protection and appropriate use of technology, these documents serve as a guide for responsible and informed participation in campus affairs.

National Resources

The Trevor Project is an American nonprofit organization founded in 1998. Focused on suicide prevention efforts for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning youth, they offer a toll-free telephone number where confidential assistance is provided by trained counselors.

The Human Rights Campaign envisions a world where every member of the LGBTQ+ family has the freedom to live their truth without fear, and with equality under the law.

Gender Spectrum works to create gender sensitive and inclusive environments for all children and teens.

The National Center for Transgender Equality advocates to change policies and society to increase understanding and acceptance of transgender people. In the nation’s capital and throughout the country, NCTE works to replace disrespect, discrimination, and violence with empathy, opportunity, and justice.

GLAAD rewrites the script for LGBTQ acceptance. As a dynamic media force, GLAAD tackles tough issues to shape the narrative and provoke dialogue that leads to cultural change.

GLSEN is an American education organization working to end discrimination, harassment, and bullying based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression and to prompt LGBT cultural inclusion and awareness in K-12 schools.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation improves the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) people by working to increase understanding. The HRC Foundation works to build capacity and change policies, practices, hearts and minds in a range of institutions that shape our daily lives.
