The Study Abroad Process

  • Most students will begin by browsing and researching programs online, talking with Study Abroad students at tabling events, seeing a staff member in class, or chatting with students who have done it already.
  • Students are welcome to make an appointment with a staff member at any time.
  • They are encouraged to work with their academic advisor to determine how study abroad fits into their degree plan.

  • Once a student has chosen a program, they begin the online application.
  • For most spring semester programs, the deadline is Oct. 1.
  • For spring break programs, it’s Oct. 1.
  • For fall, semester, and summer programs, the deadline is March 1.
  • Some programs may have earlier deadlines.

  • After the deadline, applications are reviewed by Study Abroad staff and faculty.
  • Students are notified of a decision within two weeks.
  • Students then choose to commit or decline participation.

  • Accepted students must submit more detailed information.
  • Students will participate in mandatory pre-departure orientations.
  • These orientations help students prepare for travel, academics, and cultural adjustment.

  • Students are encouraged to stay in contact with the OIP – Study Abroad.
  • They can reach out if questions arise or to share updates about their experience.

  • After returning, OIP – Study Abroad processes transcripts and grades.
  • The office provides re-entry programming to help with reverse culture shock and prepare for the job market.
  • Students receive support marketing their experiences to future employers.
