What is the Lilly Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship?

Lilly Postdoctoral Fellows teach in Christ College’s First-Year Program and receive two-year appointments. These positions prepare scholars for future faculty roles at church-related institutions across the U.S.

What is taught in the Christ College First-Year Program?

Fellows teach one semester of the two-semester First-Year Program, which consists of “Texts and Contexts I and II”—small, discussion-based courses with a strong focus on primary texts and writing.

What makes the curriculum unique?

The program is interdisciplinary, emphasizing critical thinking and direct engagement with philosophical and religious texts. Faculty lead both seminars and writing instruction.

What question drives the Fall Semester coursework?

The key question explored is: “What does it mean to flourish as a human being?” This frames the philosophical inquiry students will pursue in the course.
