After graduating from Valparaiso University with a major in Political Science and a minor in Humanities, Mary Burce Warlick attended The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University where she received an M.A. in Law and Diplomacy. After working for a U.S. refugee resettlement agency in the Philippines for a year, she joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1983 and since then has served in a variety of diplomatic assignments in the Philippines, Bangladesh, Germany, Russia, Serbia, and Australia, as well as at the State Department in Washington, D.C. She spent over ten years working on issues in Russia and Eastern Europe, including serving as Office Director for Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova from 1998-2000, as Economic Minister-Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow from 2001-2004, as Office Director for Russian Affairs from 2004-2007, as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Russia at the National Security Council from 2007-2008, and as Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for European and NATO Policy and Russia, Ukraine and Eurasia Policy from 2008-2009. She then served as U.S. Ambassador to Serbia from 2010-2012, as U.S. Consul General in Melbourne, Australia, from 2012-2014, and she is now serving as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Acting Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs in the State Department\u2019s Bureau of Energy Resources.  Mary and her husband, James, have three grown children: Jamie, Jason, and Jordan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Warlick retired from the US Department of State in September 2017 after a 34-year career during which she served most recently as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary and Acting Special Envoy and Coordinator for International Energy Affairs.
