Campus Facilities
Practice rooms with and without pianos are available for students registered for studio lessons or ensemble music instruction.
Organ Practice
Four organ studios are available on the first floor of the VUCA music wing, and students enrolled in studio lessons in organ receive lock combinations to these practice rooms by special arrangement with the department office.
Organ students are also able to reserve use of organs in Bauer Hall (VUCA 1519). Advanced organ students may also schedule practice time at the Reddel Memorial Organ in the Chapel of the Resurrection.
Grand Piano Practice
Valparaiso University owns several grand pianos, which are maintained in the rehearsal rooms and in Duesenberg Recital Hall, including a 9-foot concert Steinway, Baldwin, and Boesendorfer. These are available to piano students at or above level 203. Scheduling of practice by individual students must take into account other scheduled priorities for teaching and rehearsals in these rooms.
With special permission, advanced piano students can use the grand pianos in private teaching studios on the second floor of the music wing.
Specialized Resources
Students enrolled in appropriate courses, lessons, and authorized projects can access the music education instrument collection, the harpsichord, and the percussion studio, all available in the VUCA. Students must have prior approval to access these resources.
Instrument Storage
All students enrolled in the music department may request a locker for their instrument(s). During startup time in August, students apply for a locker in the music wing during special locker checkout hours. Later requests are handled in the administrative wing of the VUCA.
