The Welcome Project

Stories That Build Understanding

The Welcome Project is a Valparaiso University initiative that collects oral histories exploring the complexities of living together amid diversity and difference. Created by Professors Liz Wuerffel and Allison Schutte, the project features video and audio stories from students, faculty, and local community members. With over 300 interviews, the project supports civic engagement and creative nonfiction coursework while forming partnerships across Northwest Indiana. Its work has been used in classrooms, exhibitions, and community events region-wide.
