Other Degrees: MSW; Concentration in Domestic Social and Economic Development, Specializations in Research and Policy<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are numerous career pathways available for those with a social work degree, and I chose a distinctive route. My practicum site during my Bachelor of Social Work program<\/a> at Valparaiso University was with the Persistence and Success Program, now known as the Cornerstone Program<\/a>, within the Student Life Division. Working closely with a small group of first-generation college students sparked my interest in this demographic and inspired me to explore how the university could better support these vulnerable individuals. The program was established based on thorough research and aimed to enhance the success of this population. I developed a growing interest in research and policy, prompting me to enroll in research courses during graduate school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eventually, I transitioned into the education sector, contributing to publications on higher education enrollment and completion and researching strategies to improve K\u201312 literacy rates in low-income areas. The social work department at Valparaiso University equipped me for any career path I desired, and I am deeply thankful for the education I received. The professors, advisors, and fellow students were all incredibly supportive and welcoming, and I gained valuable insights into diversity, communication, policy, research, and, most importantly, self-care skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
