Title:<\/strong> What I\u2019m learning from the Internship Network in the Mathematical Sciences: Steps to Interesting and Fulfilling Careers<\/p>\n\n\n\n Abstract:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Thinking about life after college is often intimidating and confusing. In this talk I\u2019ll try to provide a little encouragement and clarity (maybe) by discussing what I\u2019m learning about academic vs industry jobs in my work with the Internship Network in the Mathematical Sciences. I\u2019ll also talk about the potential importance of internships as pathways to successful careers outside academia, and other tips for navigating the world of work after college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n About the speaker:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Luke Leisman is the Associate Director of the Internship Network in the Mathematical Sciences and a Research Assistant Professor of Astronomy at the University of Illinois. Originally from Grand Rapids, MI, Luke received his undergraduate degree in Physics from Calvin University and his PhD in Astronomy from Cornell University. He spent 4 years working as a professor at Valparaiso University (where he continues to work in an affiliate role) before moving to UIUC.
