The American Institute of Physics (AIP)\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0last week it has launched a scholarship program that will provide African American students with up to $10,000 annually per student to pursue bachelor\u2019s degrees in physics or astronomy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initially, the scholarship will be limited to currently enrolled physics majors at Historically Black Colleges and Universities or Predominantly Black Institutions, or to astronomy majors<\/strong> at any US university<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

AIP has received a\u00a0$12.5 million grant<\/a>\u00a0from the Simons Foundation to support the scholarship as well as efforts by undergraduate departments to implement other recommendations of the task force report. AIP is implementing the scholarship through a coalition called\u00a0TEAM-UP Together<\/a>, for which the lead partners are the American Association of Physics Teachers, the American Astronomical Society, the American Physical Society, and the Society of Physics Students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
