College of Engineering
Mission & Overview
Here at Valpo’s College of Engineering, we take a “win together” approach. Professors and students, all aimed at excellence. Students together with students, collaborating and innovating. At the end of the day, it’s about challenging bright, young minds to think boldly and dream big in order to thrive in the field.
The College of Engineering offers a well-rounded curriculum that integrates scientific and engineering principles, practical laboratory and computer work, engineering design experiences culminating in a major design project, and liberal learning in the tradition of Christian church-related colleges and universities.
Bachelor of Science degrees may be earned in bioengineering, civil, computer, electrical, environmental, and mechanical engineering. The vision of our college and goal of each of these programs is building a strong foundation in mathematics, and natural and engineering sciences. Following that are courses with increased emphasis on engineering applications, teamwork, and interdisciplinary activity. Instruction in engineering design is woven throughout the curriculum, culminating in a senior design project. This vision of our college empowers our students to be a true career professional, formulating problem statements and criteria, considering alternatives, and communicating results.
The first semester of the College of Engineering’s program is the same for all students and gives students a foundation in mathematics, the physical and engineering sciences, and the liberal arts. Of special note: our Fundamentals of Engineering course, which connects mathematics and physics to engineering topics.
The last seven semesters in the College of Engineering provide breadth and depth of study in the chosen major. Various academic and co-curricular options are available, such as an international experience, cooperative education, the Christ College Honors Program, dual degrees, and second majors and minors. It’s all with the ultimate goal of preparing Valpo College of Engineering grads for direct entry into an engineering career or graduate school.
