Professor Burow-Flak specializes in Shakespeare, English literature of the 16th and 17th centuries, early modern women writers, the history and future of the book, print culture, and digital media. She has published on early modern drama, holistic departments, speculative fiction, and the uses of digital media in English studies.
Professor Burow-Flak is the program director for the English Studies and Communication M.A. She has chaired the department and served on a number of university committees, including Faculty Senate, the Campus, Community, and Policy Committee, and the Academic Technology Advisory Group. She has also served as the Fulbright Program Advisor, the faculty representative for the Lilly Fellows Program, and a mentor for Lilly Fellows Program in Humanities and the Arts.
Courses that she has taught include Shakespeare, Literature of the 16th and 17th Centuries, New Literacies, Technologies, and Cultures of Writing, Banned Books and Novel Ideas, and First-Year Core.
Professor Burow-Flak earned her B.A. in English and communications at Augsburg University and her Ph.D. in English at the University of Texas at Austin.
