ESPN Valparaiso University Productions

ESPN Valpo Productions

As a member of the Missouri Valley Conference, the university produces over 80 athletic productions for air on the family of ESPN networks. These productions originate from a state-of-the-art control room that was built in 2017 located in the ARC and uses the same equipment that can be found in production trucks and studios.

Students have the opportunity to be members of the production crew and work in on-air roles. These opportunities include camera operator, grip, audio op, sideline reporters, graphics, replay op, producing, directing and more. The crew also produces the commencement ceremonies and other productions that happen on the Valparaiso University campus.

Meet the Team

Karl Berner

Karl Berner has been involved with live web streaming at Valparaiso University since 2010, when he was hired as Webcast Director. He has also served as Producer, Audio Op, Commercial Inventory Manager, Assistant Engineer, Team Lead, Color Announcer and Field Reporter for various productions. Karl has also produced and directed live webcasts for university events, including commencement ceremonies and MLK Day celebrations.

Karl is also an adjunct lecturer in the Department of Communication and Visual Arts, where he teaches audio-production courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, he works as Promotions Manager and On-Air Personality/News Reporter for Adams Radio Group Northern Indiana (WLJE-FM, WXRD-FM and WZVN-FM).

Around The Region, you might find him rink announcing for local roller-derby squads, serving as an emcee for civic events, watching sports, directing and acting in local theatre productions or singing with local musicians. Karl resides in Valparaiso with his partner, Ruth, and their three cats.

Corwin Leverich

Corwin Leverich started video broadcasting in 2010, during his freshman year at Valparaiso University. Initially a floor camera operator, he stepped into the director’s chair in 2012, alongside Karl Berner. Shortly after graduating from Valparaiso University in 2014, Corwin was promoted to producer/director for ESPN broadcasts upon proposing the addition of the role. Now that the team is part of the Missouri Valley Conference with a state-of-the-art production control room, he holds his role as producer/director alongside a committed team of managers, assisting the education of students eager to learn the field.

Corwin Leverich, born in NWI, has been a Valpo resident nearly his entire life. In 2020, he started a local art and brand management company named Lifted Spirits. His co-owned business takes a strong stand to support local art and local business, and offers artists the opportunity to learn practical applications to skills in the creative field. He often shows studio art, video, and photography at local venues, and will always jump at opportunities to collaborate and network.

Gus Radke

Gus Radke joined the broadcast team in 2015 in a part-time capacity on replay and highlights. In 2017 Gus transitioned to setting up and operating graphics for Valparaiso’s ESPN productions. Gus is a member of Valparaiso University’s graduating class of 2013.

Gus lives on the family orchard with his wife Sam and two children, Simon and Tessa. Radke Orchards has been family owned for five generations and counting.

Dalton Morgan

Dalton Morgan has been a part of Valparaiso Athletics since he was a freshman at the University in 2014. He started as an intramural flag football referee before moving on to the athletic event staff, where he found his home on the ESPN production team in 2015. Dalton was promoted in 2017 from a camera operator to his current position of Crew Chief and Replay Operator, where he trains crew members how to run several positions. He also keeps track of and archives highlights and live replays, shoots and edits b-roll packages, and edits and runs commercials. He also freelances for several events for both broadcast and event video.

Dalton was born and raised in West Lafayette, Indiana. In his spare time, he enjoys playing video games, as well as playing music. He’s a multi-instrumentalist, and plays bass in local hardcore punk band Complacent.

Sebastian Zieniewicz

Sebastian Zieniewicz joined the Valparaiso University broadcast team in 2020 as a senior at Crown Point High School. He has had a great amount of experience with broadcasting in the radio and television program at the high school, and has taken broadcasting courses ever since his freshman year. He is now a junior at Valparaiso University, and is majoring in Digital Media Arts. He plans to gain enough broadcasting experience to become a future broadcast meteorologist for a local television station in Indiana or up in Chicago.

Sebastian also won 1st place during senior year of high school for on-air personality at the Indiana Association of School Broadcasters (IASB) radio and television competition, where he competed live on the air against other students from different high schools around Indiana. He continues to have a radio show at WVUR-FM, the Valparaiso University radio station.

Sebastian also has a big interest in computer science and repair, as he has taken computer science courses for 3 years back in high school, and will continue them at Valparaiso University in addition to his studies in meteorology and communications.

Jacob Daluga

Jacob Daluga joined the Valparaiso University ESPN team in the fall of 2022 as a freshman. He is studying mechanical engineering and had no prior experience in the media industry but was excited to join the team and has continued to learn and gain experience. He has enjoyed his time with the crew and will continue to do productions throughout his time at Valpo and possibly beyond.

He also enjoys playing golf and basketball in his free time as well as watching sports on tv. When he’s not playing or watching sports, you’ll find him playing chess, reading, listening to music, exploring, and hanging out with family and friends.
