On Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics hosted a Trisection meeting of the Mathematical Association of America in the Harre Union. Nearly 400 mathematics faculty and students from across the tri-state (Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan) region attended. Local faculty Paul Drube, Tiffany Kolba, Ken Luther, Daniel Maxin, and Zsuzsanna Szaniszlo served as a local organizing committee to coordinate all local logistics.

During the conference, Associate Professor Mindy Capaldi gave a talk on “When Mathematics and Politics Collide: Measuring Gerrymandering”, Assistant Professor Jon Beagley gave a talk on “Using Cumulative Homework in Calculus Classes”, and Assistant Professor Tiffany Kolba organized a panel on “Encounters with Experiential Learning.”

At the Indiana Section business meeting, Associate Professor Alex Capaldi finished a 4-year term as Section treasurer and Associate Professor Lara Pudwell became 2018-2019 Section chair.
