Valpo Represented at International Conference on Permutation Patterns

Lara Pudwell, Associate Professor of Mathematics and Statistics, attended the Sixteenth International Conference on Permutation Patterns July 9-13, 2018 at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. At the conference, Prof. Pudwell gave a talk entitled “On the distribution of peaks (and other statistics)”, chaired a session, and participated in the conference series steering committee meeting.

Attendees at Valpo engage in a classroom lecture on Permutation Patterns, with laptops open as they follow the presenter and screen during the International Conference.

In addition, four students traveled to the conference.  Rising junior mathematics major Jacob Roth and presented a poster on “The distribution of statistics for pattern avoiding permutations”, based on a 2017-2018 undergraduate research project.
