The first virtual career fair is next week so now is the time to prepare.
Mark your calendars for this year’s virtual career and internship fairs to meet employers who want to hire Valpo students for jobs and internships. General Announcements
Academic Help — If your first round of exams or papers didn’t result in the grades for which you had hoped, here are some suggestions for moving forward:
* Seek to understand what didn’t go well and how to change it for next time. Your professor’s office hours are great for this conversation. If their office hours don’t fit your schedule, ask if they will set up another time to meet with you.
* Allocate more time to studying (2–3 hours outside of class for every hour in class). Recognize the types of things covered on the first exam to prepare for what might be covered, and how, on the next one.
* Review material regularly and ask the professor, classmates, SI leaders, etc. for further explanation when you don’t understand something.
* Form a study group (in-person or virtual) to learn from each other’s perspectives.
* Make time for and go to Supplemental Instruction (SI) if your class has SI.
* Request a peer tutor for a weekly tutoring session.
* Make an appointment and attend a writing consultation for your next paper.
Need to Change Your Major/Minor, Degree Program, etc.? – If you want to change your major/minor/degree program, etc. before spring semester class registration, you need to submit the Curriculum Change E-Form by Tuesday, Sept. 22. Forms will continue to be accepted after that date, but they may not be processed in time for advising changes for spring semester class registration.
Get Your Flu Vaccine – The flu vaccine is required this year for all students, faculty and staff so as to minimize the effects of the flu while we all continue to deal with the COVID pandemic. Students must have your flu vaccine done and documented with the Health Center by Monday, October 12. See your email from the Health Center for details regarding how to get your flu vaccine around campus and beyond. Any students not complying with this expectation will have a hold placed on their student account that will prevent registration for the Spring 2021 semester until the requirement is met.
Civic Reflection Training (CORE Lab Approved) – The Institute for Leadership and Service is offering training on Saturday, Sept. 19, 10 a.m.-noon via Zoom, for those interested in learning how to facilitate discussions that open up important questions, expand imagination about future action, and build bridges of understanding in the midst of difference. Sign up here to learn this key leadership skill to work well with others to serve the common good.
Join Dance Marathon Leadership Team – The ValpoDM leadership team is currently recruiting for our “DM Squad” consisting of committee members for the Entertainment, Fundraising, and Public Relations Committees. Applications are due Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 5 p.m. Anyone interested in being a part of the Leadership Team for Dance Marathon 2021 is encouraged to complete this application.
Volunteer Opportunity! Compass International Family Center is seeking homework helpers to help K-12 students after school, 5:30–7 p.m. on either Tuesdays or Thursdays throughout the semester. The program is hosted at Calvary Church, about a mile north of campus, and they can provide transportation from/to campus if an interested volunteer needs it. Training is provided on either September 22 or 24 before homework help starts the week of Sept. 29. If you’re interested in volunteering, fill out their online form here.
